The Basic Rules of Roleplay

"Immerse yourself, but don't lose yourself."

Roleplaying:
When playing on a roleplay server, players are expected to design and act as a character that is completely different from their day to day selves. Your behaviors and interactions with your character on the server should only ever reflect the thoughts, behaviors and mannerisms of the character you have created.

Inclusivity:
Our community is story-driven, rooted in mutual respect, creativity and collaboration. We welcome players of all backgrounds and identities, and we expect the same respect to be extended to others - in and out of character. This includes, but is not limited to, gender identity, sexuality, race, culture, neurodivergence and personal boundaries.

Consent is key to a successful roleplay community!

Mature Themes:

Our server is an immersive Dune-inspired setting, which means some characters may express dark, manipulative, or morally grey behaviors as part of the story. Themes like cannibalism, slavery, betrayal, political control, death, manipulation, violence and other sensitive or potentially triggering subject matter may arise in roleplay. These elements are an integral part of the server lore and to the story of the Dune universe and should be explored in an immersive, respectful and narrative intent.

However, let's be clear:
playing a morally complex character is not a license to be an asshole. There is a difference between roleplaying a villain and treating your fellow players poorly. (and vice versa!) Disrespect, harassment, or hate speech - whether veiled behind a character or not - will not be tolerated.

Conduct:
To maintain a healthy and immersive environment, we ask all players to keep in character (ic) and out of character (OOC) boundaries clear. What happens in roleplay should stay in roleplay.
That means:
• Do not treat players poorly because of their character's actions.
• Do not assume in character relationships reflect real life ones.
• Do not carry OOC feelings into IC scenes
(and vice versa!)

Characters may lie, betray, manipulate, or even harm others as part of storytelling. That does not mean the player behind them shares those views or deserves negative treatment. Always approach others with the assumption that they are here to tell a story - not to hurt you personally.

If you're unsure where a line falls, ask. When conflicts arise, talk them out respectfully and involve staff if needed. We are all here to build a world together - and that requires trust, communication and clear boundaries.

Regarding Griefing:
Griefing is defined as intentionally disrupting another player’s experience for your own amusement or gain. Griefing undermines fair play, damages trust in the community, and ruins the immersive experience for others. We aim to provide a world built on mutual respect, creativity and storytelling. Griefing violates that foundation and will result in staff involvement, including permanent bans, depending on the severity.

This includes:
• Using your carrier, thopter or other vehicles and tools to steal or interfere with another player with the intention to harass and undermine another player’s experience.
• Destroying property without roleplay reason
(See Theft/Robbery)
• Blocking access to areas with no way to roleplay access.
• Baiting NPC enemies (including the worm) onto other players in an attempt to circumvent roleplay or initiation.
• Abusing game mechanics in bad faith to annoy, trap or ruin someone else’s gameplay experience.
• Abusing thumpers to troll, block escape or interfere with another player’s roleplay. This includes using thumpers inside places they should not be used.

Staff reserve the right to determine what is and isn't considered griefing.
When in doubt, don't do it - if you think it might ruin someone's experience, it probably will.

Combat Logging:

Combat logging is the act of intentionally logging out either by force closing their game, or disconnecting to switch switches to avoid the consequences of a roleplay scenario - especially during PvP, arrest, capture or death.

This includes:
• Logging out mid-fight to avoid being downed or killed. (This includes attempting to switch seitches.)

• Disconnecting during a chase or escape.
• Quitting to resist arrest, punishment or RP consequences.
• Claiming lag or crash repeatedly when being cornered or detained.

Why it is a problem:
• It breaks immersion and disrespects the time and effort of other roleplayers

• It undermines the story, removing conflict resolution and consequences

• It shows poor sportsmanship, avoiding fair outcomes by exploiting disconnection

• It discourages others from engaging in dynamic RP, especially in conflict-heavy scenes.

What to do instead:
If you're having technical issues, report them immediately via the Forced Nap channel. If you disconnect unintentionally, log back in ASAP and resume the RP honestly. We understand real issues happen, but communication is key.

Repeat or intentional combat logging may result in temporary or permanent bans depending on severity.

Violation Reporting:

If you are involved in any PvP encounter or wish to report a rule violation, you must provide valid, verifiable evidence.
• Staff cannot act on reports without sufficient proof.
• Do not open a ticket without some form of evidence.
• Tickets submitted without supporting proof may be closed without review.

Accepted Evidence Includes:
 • Video / Audio recordings of the encounter being reported, should include context - which is at least 3 minutes before and 3 minutes after.
• Screenshots of discord messages must include discord usernames and timestamps.
• Combat logs or kill feeds.
• All evidence must be unmodified and clearly legible. Cropped or altered content will not be accepted.
• Submitting faked or misleading evidence is grounds for a ban - either temporary or permanent.

Faction-Tied Items (Holos, Build Parts, Machines like Deathstills, etc.):
We are not banning the use of these items. However, we do ask that you apply thoughtful narrative reasoning when choosing to use them and expect in-character reactions to the use of these items to not always be positive! After all, it is a ROLEPLAY server! Examples:
A Fremen using a Deathstill makes perfect sense.
A Harkonnen using one? Not so much unless you've roleplayed stealing it from a slaughtered sietch.

Use your creativity but also your character's story context.

Inactivity:

Players who are offline for more than 20 days without prior notice to staff will be considered inactive.

To avoid the risk of losing in-game assets or property, please notify the staff team if you anticipate an extended absence. Inactive players may forfeit ownership of any property or holdings they possess, including land, structures, or group roles.

Your communication helps us maintain an active and fair environment for all players.

Rule-Breaks & Staying in Character:
Players are expected to remain in character at all times. This includes but is not limited too:

• If you witness a rule-break, find a respectful way to exit the roleplay and submit a report via a ticket to the staff team in discord. Be sure to include screenshots, and/or clips and as much detail about who, what, when, where and why. The staff team will handle the situation.

• Players are required to follow any and all server lore and continuity outlined for the server, regardless of their character's storyline, history or desire.

Roleplay Content Restrictions:
All roleplay on the server must abide by our Community Rules. Character design is not and will never be accepted as an excuse for violating our content restrictions.

Roleplay over Gameplay:
"Winning" vs winning:
Players should never focus on "winning" or "being the best". While the game we play is not specifically a roleplay game, the server you do play on is designed to be an immersive roleplay server. There is a difference between having a "winning" attitude and portraying a character who wants to "be the best".

This also applies to item being used in game - j
ust because something is easy, "the meta" or accessible
doesn’t always mean it fits your character’s story or faction identity.

Try to lead with narrative intent and we promise, the experience will be far more rewarding.

Meta-gaming & Power-gaming:

  • Metagaming is the use of knowledge that the player knows but their character has yet to learn. You cannot know or act on information that your character has not learned in roleplay. Using meta information is metagaming and will not be tolerated.

  • Powergaming is the use of a game mechanic, external information or roleplay concept to provide an unfair or unrealistic advantage to a character or story. Powergaming  in any form is prohibited.

Communication:
Voice Roleplay:

For the best immersion and roleplay experience, we strongly encourage all players to use the in-game VOIP  or use the discord bot Dominus Vox. Use of Voice helps keep scenes dynamic, personal, and grounded in real-time interaction.
However, in the event a player prefers text roleplay over voice roleplay, we ask that text roleplay be used respectfully to maintain the flow and balance of a voice-first server.

Dominus Vox:

  • Allows use of discord channels marked as (IC).

  • Do not use this system as a way to meta or power game player names.

  • Do not use this system to "out" players or disrupt immersion.

  • If you abuse this system, you'll receive a 7-day temp ban - no exceptions.

Text Roleplay:

  • They have a legitimate reason not to use voice chat (e.g. hearing impairments, anxiety, broken microphone, etc.)

  • You must use Proximity Chat to roleplay through text.

  • Keep responses short—one or two sentences at most.

  • Avoid writing long paragraphs or monologues, especially during active VOIP scenes.

Voice Changers:

  • Staff reserve the right to ask you to remove or change the voice changer if they deem it inappropriate for server setting.

  • Voice changers are allowed as long as it does not negatively affect the roleplay.

  • The voice must reflect the character you are playing.

Out of Character:

  • External voice chat (discord, skype, ventrillo etc.) is allowed for NON-RP tasks. (Solo-farming). The moment active-rp begins, you must mute/deafen or close the external voice chat and use in-game voice chat.

  • Abusing any external voice chat is considered meta-gaming, and severe punishments will be issued for these rule breaks.

  • Out-of-character (OOC) channels in discord are strictly for OOC communications, this includes all OOC voice channels.

  • Using external voice chat is NEVER allowed during PvP situations. Severe punishments will be issued for these rule breaks.

Broadcasting:

  • Music or sound effects are not allowed to be used on the server over the in-game voice chat unless it fits the roleplay scenario and is only done to enhance the roleplay. Abuse of this will result in a temporary suspension from the server.

  • Copyright music and sound effects may never be played over the in-game voice chat.

Use of Text Chat Channels:
World / Guild / Party / Whispers: may only be used as a "Communinet Radio". Meaning you may only use it to enhance your roleplay. Abuse of the chat system will result in a temporary suspension from the server. This includes but is not limited to:

Using text chat to call for reinforcements when the roleplay dictates that you are in custody of our Imperial
Proximity: may be used for emoting.

  • Example: Naftali emotes: *shakes her head no, as she makes a face at her sister.*

Proximity / Party / Whispers: may be used for text roleplay if you are unable to use voice chat, and only if you are near the person you are communicating with.

  • Examples:

  1. Nayari uses party chat to emote: *Makes a signal with her hand, indicating that there are 2 individuals behind Athena.*

  2. Cerys uses proximity chat to say "I disagree, but as you wish"

If you are unable to communicate via voice, due to an abrupt voice chat failure, you may use Proximity / Whisper to communicate that you are unable to respond. When using it for this reason, denote your message with (( )) so the other player knows and understands.
An example of this is: ((Can't hear, one second)).

Reminders:

  • Treat roleplay as if you are acting in a play. While there is no script, you are still playing a character.

  • Keep a clear separation between 'in-character' and 'out-of-character'. Take a break if your personal emotions are bleeding into roleplay, and vice versa.

  • If you are having a bad day out-of-character, do not let it bleed into your roleplay. We advise our players to take the day off for some self care. Your mental health is more important than the story.

  • Your character is not you. Anything that happens to your character is NOT a direct attack on you.

  • Have fun with the character you have created! Step outside your 'norm' and allow yourself some creativity!

  • Moderation is key! Remember, at the end of day, it is still a video game. Take regular breaks, and remember to drink water!
